02 Feb National Children’s Dental Health Month
Happy 2017 everyone! It’s hard to believe we are already one month into the new year! In January, we took down our tree and we are happy to report that it was filled with more than 150 beautiful ornaments made by our patients. The tree was not only festive, but it also contributed to a donation to help continue the amazing work that is done at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Thank you all (and your children) for your support of this amazing place!
February is National Children’s Dental Health month. This month-long national health observance brings together thousands of dedicated dental professionals, healthcare providers, and educators to promote the benefits of good oral health to children, their caregivers, teachers and many others. At Ponzio Dental, we appreciate this month as it never hurts to remember the effect that good oral health can have on the entire body. This year, the American Dental Association has adopted the slogan “Choose Tap Water for a Sparkling Smile”. The purpose of this slogan is to encourage children to opt for water instead of sugary drinks such as juice, pop (or soda for our East Coast patients), and sports drinks. It is well documented that these sugary and acidic drinks can cause breakdown of the enamel in our teeth, especially when consumed regularly. Tap water has the added benefit of fluoride, which has shown to aid in the remineralization of teeth and a reduction in tooth decay or dental caries.
We encourage not only the children of our practice but all of our patients to use this month as a time to focus on developing good oral health care habits and to make sure that your dental care is up to date. As always, if you should need anything at all, feel free to give us a call. We hope you and your family have a happy and healthy 2017!
